Epson Stylus 600 clogged nozzles?

N

Nathan Gutman

I got an Epson Stylus 600 with which I am not familiar and have no
User's Manual or any documentation.

I replaced the black cartridge then ran the Nozzle Check Pattern. The
black pattern was very bad so I ran the nozzle cleaning utility
several times. The pattern immediately improved but two gaps
stubbornly remain in the black pattern. The color pattern was OK..

When printing text with graphics I get several faint white (no ink?)
horizontal lines.

I printed at 720 dpi on regular paper.

Are clogged nozzles doing that or is it something else?
How do I get them properly cleaned out?

I noticed the the cleaning utility wastes a lot of ink both black and
color even if only one (the black) is clogged.

Thanks for any help.
Nathan

TechDude

I have a 600 - with very similar probs to yours. I have bought a cleaning
cartridge from a pc fair - made by "Printrite" where I was offered either
colour or black. Have to say I havent got round to using it yet - but I dont
doubt my blockage probs relate to leaving the printer unused for days /
weeks at a time.
Cost was around £5 I think.
Regarding the manual :

is this what you are looking for?

If you do not have any driver you can download it from Epson. If not I
can mail you it. (I hope-I am a Mac user)

Yes .It is the two missing lines. I suppose this printer did not work so
much until it came to you.

It s late here. (midnight ) Tomorrow I will try to give you some hints.

I use two 600 Epsons and the work both very satisfactory.

Thanks, I will see if I can get such a cleaning cartridge in USA.
Yes, this is the manual. I downloaded a pdf file from Epson site but
is has over 100 pages. The one you mentioned has over 200 pages. Way
too much to print out.
So I am looking for a hard opy from someone.

Thanks, I am PC user. Booklets in French will not do me any good.
I downloaded the driver and got the printer to work but I heard that
the original installation disk had some other useful programs on it.

Correct, the printer was not used or even turned on for several
months.

Yes, I know what you mean. I use Outlook Express and made some rules
not to accept anything that contains "Microsoft" or "MS".
And, thank you again for taking the time to help.

Fine!

but I heard that

Yes ,there are even 2 CD .One with the drivers and an other one with two
crappy programs (LivePix SE 1.1 and Sierra Print Artist 4.0) and a lot
of sample pictures. I am quite sure you will do fine without the program
and the pictures.
"Techdudes" abdvise to buy a cleaning cartridge is not so bad.

Its midnight again!

Check for cleaning carts at www.mediastreet.com , I think they will have
them, if not you could buy empty cartridges and fill them with their cleaning
fluid.

I think that the PDF -copy is good enough for your purposes:)
Most articles in this manual are not adressing -true problems- with the
printer- as there are the hard cloggings , you experience.

The following is a shorte description ,how to get rid of the failling
nozzles.

You need :
windex or some equivalent( Household ammonium)
A phillips screwriver.
A larger injection neel (?).
Time
Patience

1. You take the printer cover off ( 4 screws)
2. Printer "on"
3.Push the paperfeed button at least 3-5 sec. The printer head carriage
will move in the middle of the printer.
4.Disconnect power wire.
5.Locate far right in the printer the "swamp" which humifides the
printer heads.
6. Fill the i -needle with about 2 milliliters af a mixture of ammonium
50: 50 with water and project this on to the swamp.
7. Reconnect power strip.
8. The printerheads will after a while return to their rest position.
9. Let the printer in this position for about 4 hours.
10. Make a new anti clogging action ( pressing the colour button for 3-
5 sec.
11. make a manual nozzle cheque (printer off - holding down both the
on/off button and the paper feed button for about 3 sec.)
12. If still clogged ,restart procedere 1- 11.

If all this doesnt help, write again in the group and I will give you
further advice.
