Epson SC 980 driver problem

I have an Epson SC 980 which was installed under Win98SE and was running
fine! Then I "upgraded" to XP Pro w/ SP2. When I upgraded I lost the Epson
Utilities "Status" function and the screen that shows the Black and Color
cartridge ink levels.

After losing those functions I downloaded the latest driver software from
the Epson USA site and tried to install it. I received an Error Message
telling me that I needed to install the printer. (I had just been using the
printer.) I then checked the XP Control Panel > Add Hardware function and
tried installing the printer again; then attempted to do the installation of
the Epson driver. I got the same Error Message.

I checked the CD that came with the printer and find that it indicates that
it includes printer drivers for Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, Wiudows NT 4.0,
and Apple Macintosh. It doesn't mention XP.

Should I reinstall the printer software from that CD? OR ... ???

TIA

Because you didn't load the status monitor. It is a separate download.

Unintstall the driver, disconnect the printer, and try again. You need to
use the latest and greatest driver from the Epson site. After that, install
the printer status monitor software from the Epson site.

Before you do anything, uninstall the printer and the driver and
reboot. Then do the reinstallation.

The Epson 2000 drivers are the same as used for XP. The latest drivers
on the website are dated 9/21/01. If yours on the CD are older, do not
use them, instead use the new ones.

On the driver on the website there is a note:

During the installation, you may see a screen with a Stop Searching
button. If this screen appears, make sure your printer is connected to
the computer and turned on, then click Stop Searching to continue with
the installation.

Also, the ink monitor is a separate program and you download and install
it separately.

You do not want to install the "out of box" XP drivers provided by
Microsoft with XP. Don't allow those drivers to be installed. If XP
requires them to be, delete them prior to installing the ones from the
Epson website.

The Epson drivers are self-extracting.
