Epson RX510 ink

I rarely print anything in colour yet the whole printer has now shut down
because it says the colour ink cartridges are empty. They are not, I can
shake them and hear lots of fluid. How can I reset the counter or just print
in black?

Epson lost (or 'settled') a case recently where they had been sued for
showing empty cartridges with a large amount of ink still left in the
printer. Doesn't look like yours is part of it, but it probably has
the same problem.

You could use a chip resetter to make the ink last a little longer,
but you run the risk of running the printhead dry, which you
definitely do not want to do. If you go into the settings (the
Advanced Settings for newer R-series printers), you can select 'black
ink only' but the printer will still use the color ink for cleaning
every time you turn the printer on.

I think in your case it would be best to simply buy new cartridges,
then set the printer to only print in black. Also, don't keep turning
it on and off, so it won't use up all the ink just cleaning itself. A
C-series printer will clog if you do this, but the R-series should
not.
