Epson question

Wes Whitlock

I have an Epson CX3200 (all-in-one).

It prints quite well but seems to want to clean its own heads too often. I'm
assuming that is what's going on. I'll go to print something and it will
cycle through about 30 seconds of techno-noise (same sound as a head clean)
before it will start to print. It doesn't do it every time, but often enough
that its use of ink concerns me, not to mention the extreme annoyance of
waiting for it to start.

If this is indeed an automatic head clean, then surely there is a way to
disable it (I've looked - no luck). Even the Epson manual says to avoid
needless head cleaning due to the waste of ink.

Any help?

Also, what is the consensus on turning the printer off and on?
1. Always on?
2. Turn on/off with the computer?
3. Only on when needed?

Thanks,
Wes

Leave the printer off until you need to use it. That will cut down on the
cleaning cycles. Turn it off using the power button on the printer, don't
just turn it off at the surge strip. No way to turn off automatic head
cleanings.

I had nearly given in and begun to consider another epson - until you
reminded me. THANK YOU!

I turn my epson off as much as possible - because hearing it cycle
endlessly, reminds me of the money I threw down the toilet for a piece
of junk that printed great for two weeks and then an epson technician
ruined the print heads and epson refused a refund, because I had THEIR
technician clean and damage the print head.

Like I said, much appreciated for reminding me. : )

Does the carriage (printhead) goes slowly to the left while doing this
"cleaning" cycle? If yes, it don't clean the printhead, the printer thinks
the printhed didn't park well last time. I suspect that the lock lever for
the carriage it is missed or broken or stucked.

No, it doesn't. My last Epson (stylus colour 400) did the same thing with
the same degree of annoyance.

So, the printer do the usual procedure. The printer choose to do a cleaning
cycle if it is stayed off for a few days, as a precaution possible dried
ink. E.g. it don't clean the printhead if you turn on after a few hours. And
because of pigmented inks frequent cleaning is a necessity.
