Epson - Does printing colour use black?

R

Rob

I have got an Epson Sylus Photo 750. I can print in black without any
problem but it seems that the colour nossles are a bit clogged up so i am
trying to clean them up.
I have put a cleaning cartridge into the colour slot but left my black on
in. When ever i print any colour images I keep getting some black on the
printout. Does it use the black for even colour pictures?

Cheers

You are printing with subtractive primaries---Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow. In
principle, you should be able to put down all three and get black. In
actual practice, the pigments are not good enough and the result is some
kind of muddy brown or other yucky color. Hence a black pigment is needed.
I'll bet that black ink is used for virtually ANY color image.
