Epson CX5400 - ran out of cyan ink, now can't print anything at all.

I ran out of the cyan ink in my Epson CX5400 printer, but I still have
plenty of black ink. I set the printer preferences to Black Ink only so
I can print in black and white. Yet, the printer still shows this error
(red light is blinking on the printer's top panel and the error is
displaying on the LCD screen). I just can't get past this error and
cannot print at all.

Does anyone know how to get around that error and print in black and
white?

Thanks in advance!

There is no way around this, you need to replace the cartridge. Epson printers
(and many others) will not print with empty cartridges, this is to protect the
head from damage because the head must have ink flowing through it. The
preferences only dictate which inks to actually use, not whether you need the
ink or not.

You can always try to 'fool' the printer by using a 'chip resetter'
just a little unit that the cartridge sits in whilst pressing
button to rest the cartridge chip

But doing this is asking for trouble as you will be running th
printer dry which will cause head damage, these chip resttters ar
for those who choose to refill their empty tanks
