Epson C84 won't clean after repeated tries - Help??

I did my first ink replacement of Cyan cartridge on my new epson C84
(I'm using Epson branded cart - not OEM). After 10 cleaning cycles, I
still get a broken line on the nozzle check. What's even more strange
is that the nozzle check pattern on the Cyan is always broken in the
same place. I have never seen this occur after cleaning an Epson. What
can i do to get this dog to work? Is something physically clogged that
I can fix (since it appears in the same place each time.)? Thanks

With the lid open and the power off, turn the power on and when the head
swings to the other side pull the power plug.
On the right side you will see a small pad, this is where the head sits when
the printer is off.
Put a small amount of window cleaner (1cc) on the small pad and plug the
printer in. Turn off the printer and let sit over night. This should
dissolve the clog in the nozzles.
Run a nozzle check the next day, if it didn't work repeat.

If it tends to clog in the same place, same colour cartridge, that would
maybe indicate ink starvation (micro-bubbles) in the feeder system. Often
using say Windolene (Windex USA) which is an Ammonia solvent for dye based
inks does help. Epson original cartridges... Ho Ho dodgy business as they
are made all over in sweat shop economies. You probably have Malayan bat
droppings in the mix :) Although the 84 uses pigmented inks the solvent
often works on this as well.
If a few drops - left to sit overnight - on the parking pad doesn't shift it
a more drastic solution is to use the old cartridge and refill it with the
Windolene: the instant kitchen wipe down liquids function as well. A few
pages printed with this will clean from within and shift possible encrusted
paper waste or resin deposits.
For instance the JetTec cartridges that I distribute now include a cartridge
flush and head cleaner for free with each ink refill pack. I don't suppose
Epson would want to do that to avoid the admission that Peizo- electric
heads can clog. If it is the standard capacity cartridge ( 8ml) they have
been known to contain little ink. They come in JetTec speak as 13ml or the
black Hi-capacity containing 30 ml.

Hi Scram

Does this procedure work on a 740i? I put a new cartridge in and the colour
light stays on?

I tried putting the old cartridge back in the printer (because I have a
utility which shows that there was actually quite a bit of ink left in all
three supplies, but no amount of running cleaning cycles or turning off and
on I could do would stop the EMPTY colour ink light from blinking) but
nothing changes. The colour light stays on and nothing I can do now by
cleaning, turning on or off or leaving off for ten minutes an dthen turning
it on will assist.

I have had this printer for about four months and altohugh I have managed
to get it to print black and white and occasionally colour (and on one
occasion, it even printed a color photo) it has never consistently printed
properly, it has always given these presumably incorrect error messages. On
one occasion it told me that the waste pad had filled up and Epson technical
support told me that that meant I had to buy a new printer. I cleaned it
out, downloaded an SSC utility to reset the ink waste indicator (although I
never did find out how it did this and the utility never did tell me that it
had done this??) and the printer then worked for a few weeks (and that was
when it did actually print a colour photo!!!) but now I am back to the
printer not actually working at all on any cartridges whether I am trying to
use black or colour. Is this a case of a defective cartridge or do I have
to windex some clogged nozzles or heads as you suggest?

Someone said that you CANNOT ever put a cartridge back in an Epson printer
when you have taken it out for whatever reason without introducing air
bubbles into the nozzles which you can't then get rid of, AND that waiting
more than a few days with these air bubbles in place will irretrievably
damage the printer because Epson printers are especially susceptible to
drying out the ink around the air bubbles (or the air bubbles themselves dry
the ink which THEN cannot be cleaned). Is this an inherent fault with all E
pson printers?

The SSC utility now tells me (on any number of resettings) that the
cartridge is actually full so I know that the colour light isnt indicative
of an empty cartridge. Will this thing windex or Ammonia clean?

No, this procedure only works to unclog physical obstructions (dried ink).
You need to get Epson to take it back. They should have you try a few things
to fix it.

Don't tell them you used the SSC utility. In fact make sure you can get to
the Epson monitor so only that monitor is in your systray and not the SSC
monitor (they can interfere with other). Ink levels should be indicated in
the Epson monitor.

I wonder if that is my problem: I did accidentally tell Epson that I have
the SSC utility but it / the SSC monitor only activates when I activate it

But I havent actually GOT an Epson monitor?? Neither of these appears in my
systray unless I start the SSC application? Nowhere in my
start-programs-epson nor in the printers-properties? The printer did print
out a page sized photo properly once a few months ago so I find it a bit
difficult to beleive that there is anything amiss with the ink levels but
since then I havent used the colours at all and am wondering if EITHER the
cartridge is actually dry and the SSC utility is just wrong and the red
light is merely telling me that the colour cartridge is out of ink OR the
nozzles are in fact clogged (possbly through lack of use) and I need to
spray Windex on them over the course of a few overnight sessions and turn
the unit on and off a few times to activate that self-cleaning function?
(which is actuallly how I managed to get the printer to print out that page
when I did manage to get it to print the photo)

Windex will not cure the lights, your printer can not tell if it is
clogged.

Epson should stand behind their warranty.

Thanks I'll try this,. I assume that the pad is the one on the FAR
right that sits higher than the one sitting just to the left of it.
Correct?

Correct?

I have a C64 which is supposed to be identical except for the extra capacity
black cartridges and there is one pad in the middle with a brush to the
right of that.
