Epson C84 Clogged Already...

xNokia3390x

I bought two Epson C84's a few months ago when they were just $15 after
rebate with full sets of ink in each printer. I only opened one (bought the
second one mainly for its ink) and after going away for Thanksgiving weekend
I came back to a clogged printer! I can't run the head-cleaning utility
[and the standard cleaning before printing/at startup doesn't seem to do
anything] because my black has less than 5% remaining. I don't want to put
a new cartridge in if the clog is more severe than I think it is. The
streaking is bad through the color prints and it seems to be the yellow
mainly. I dunno, just thought I'd share my experiences. My Canon i560 (a
year old) is still doing fine and it's the one I thought would clog before
the Epson did.

I've found warm water cleans any piezo head. I've heard the new epsons
are getting rid of chip. There are resetting methods. pulling plug etc.

It isn't necessary to disassemble to ease a blockage. Use some Windex
(window cleaner) or shower cleaner fluid on the parking pads where the head
parks. A more rigorous inside out cleaning is done by injecting this solvent
fluid into a near empty cartridge and printing a few pages so that the crud
is forced out.
The pigmented cartridges take longer than dye based inks but it still works.
Letting it sit overnight with the solvent on the pads can and does ease
things.
Good luck

In a nutshell, pigmented inks don't play as nicely as dye types.

The Epson C84 uses pigmented inks, and they tend to clog more easily
than the dye. Your printer may not be fully parking the heads, or the
cleaning station may have some ink residue around it that is not
allowing it to seal correctly.

The good news is that the vast majority of these clogs are reversible
with a bit of ammoniated window cleaner and a paper towel.

If you'd like instructions, email me at the address I sent this from and
request the Epson Cleaning Manual (it is a free service), which explains
how to deal with this.

If it is still under warranty, I suppose you could send it to Epson for
replacement. Epson needs to clean up their situation with these
printers and inks, and maybe if they get enough back, they will make
some design corrections.

Hey Jimw!

Thanks for the URL with freeware manual.

Is this the same as the one to which Arthur Ehrlich referred?

If you do find my manual on the web, or published anywhere, I would
appreciate being informed.

My manual should only be available through me, via email. Any other
access is a violation of the copyright and likely an older copy, since I
often update it.

I do not charge for my manual, so there is no advantage to getting it
elsewhere (if indeed someone is offering it).
