Epson 960, cyan bands everywhere

P

PC Gladiator

I've got an Epson 960 and it's driving me crazy. (XP Home)

I haven't used it in a bit and now the damn thing is printing cyan bands on
everything I print.
Sometimes they're 1/2" apart all the way down the page. Sometimes 1/4"
apart all the way down a picture. I can't get rid of the damn things!

What I've done:
1. Loaded the latest print driver and monitor from Epson site.
2. Replaced both Cyan and Light Cyan cartridges.
3. Cleaned heads three times.
4. Print head alignment once.

Has anybody ever seen this or have any ideas on how to fix it? This damn
printer cost big bucks and I have gotten no where near my money's worth out
of it. It can't be dead!

5. Use paper towel to clean the ink under the printer head or roller.

What did the nozzle check show??? If it is still under warranty give Epson
a call or send them an email to tech support. That's what you have a
warranty for in case of any problems.

Let me clarify. The lines are rather thick and very dark and deliberate,
ie. not just a little leftover ink.

How would I do that on this printer? The print head looks like it's in a
sort of trough where you can't slide a paper towel in.

On closer examination, the gray foam under the area of the printer heads has
quite a bit of ink on the left side of the printer. There are heavy
deposits of black, cyan and yellow. I guess that explains the sudden drop
in ink levels after a few prints.

Can the print head be toast after *very* little use?

The nozzle check is fine, *except* for the two thick blue lines on it!

Yes, I know I can call Epson. I was looking to see if there was something I
could do to fix the problem. The entire return for service process is time
consuming and a royal PITA.

I looked on the Epson site and didn't see any email option for tech support.
When you click on the mail option it pops up a screen with their snail mail
address! If you have a pointer it sure would be appreciated since their
tech support numbers are not toll free and I'd rather have an email trail as
documentation.

Thank you very much for that pointer. The report has been sent. Never
dealt with Epson tech support so hope it goes well.

Well, all I can say is WOW! I got a response from Epson tech support in 13
minutes via email.

Of course, some of the things that were suggested were already done. Wish
they'd edit those canned responses. But got instructions to call Epson tech
support for a replacement.

Called and got somebody immediately and they even spoke English which a
minor miracle these days. Went through their standard tests and problem
still existed so they're sending a replacement. On the phone 22 minutes.

I'm *very* impressed with Epson service.

Glad to hear it worked out well for you.

Replacement printer delivered today via UPS 2nd Day Air! Unbelieveable
response and service with Epson. They've made big points in my book. Now
I'm leaning towards them for a decent scanner. Wish everybody was this
good!

Yeah? Well wait 'till that warranty runs out and you get into
trouble, then tell us how good Epson is for printers and scanners. So
far I'm out an Epson Perfection Scan scanner & a 1270 printer that
failed just beyond the warranty date and couldn't be as they say
"economically repaired" by my Epson repair facility. From now on, any
Epson product I get will be purchased with an extended warranty. I'd
have to say that 4 additional years on my 2200 is worth the $75.

Dang it, ya rained on my parade! I was rather disappointed that this
expensive printer developed this problem after light use. On the other
hand, I've got an ooooold Epson Stylus Color 400 that keeps pluggin' along.
Like everything, ya pays yur money and takes yur chances... But it does
suck that almost all this stuff is disposable rather than fixable. Then
again, we probably couldn't afford the fixable models...
