Epson 3170 - Taking ages to start scan.

Steve

I have an Epson 3170, and suddenly out of nowhere it seems to have developed
an annoying fault.

Usually when I click on the scan button, it starts to scan immediately, but
lately when I press the scan button it takes up to 10-50 seconds to start
scanning. I have tried reinstalling the scanner software but to no avail.
Perhaps remnants of the old scanner software are still left in Windows (In
my case, Windows XP). Is there a way to completely remove all instances of
the software?

Mike.

You don't accidentally have the scanner software setup to scan a piece film
(thus using the lid's light source) while at the same time having the white
insert for reflective materials (like prints) still attached to the lid, do
you? This will cause calibration problems and make the scanner take forever
to make a (bad) scan. Been there, done that a few times!

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the quick reply.

No, the scanner settings are fine, and when the scan actually finished the
scanned image is fine.

I have just managed to find and uninstaller program to remove all the Epson
drivers and have done a fresh install. The seems to have fixed the
problem... for now!
