Epson 3000?

J

jw

I have inherited an Epson 3000 Stylus printer in pristine condition.
It does not want to print in color, just black and white.
Though the installation disk is specified as only for Window NT and
before, I did find XP drivers that enable it to be recognized by my XP
SP3. It connects via LPT1.

I have tried cleaning the print heads to no avail. I am wondering if
anyone has any experience with this printer and might be able to
suggest something to make it print color. Did I read somewhere that
it only worked right for black and white? Doesn't sound right. The
manual distinctly says color and there are three color cartridges.

Art has a marvelous free manual to give extensive suggestions to what one
can do to get the printer clear of head clogs. He has nothing to sell you
and simply does this to share knowledge and elucidate folks that they can
maintain their Epson printers and fix problems that happen.
Ask him to send you the manual nicely and he'll most likely oblige in
addition to giving you some other suggestions to help getting the color
section of the 3000 running again.

Thank you

I certainly will! The Last thing in the world I want to do is to toss
this wonderful looking printer. I only wish it were USB.

Sometimes with an Epson printer and Windows XP one will have to make
the setup for B&W and color in both the printer driver AND on the XP
Control Panel.

So check the XP Control Panel/Printers & Faxes settings. Right click
on the installed printer to bring up the settings I think it is.

Every so often I forget to do this and mess up trying to print.

You have installed the printer by going to the XP Control Panel!

If it's been sitting around for a long time
you will have to clean the heads several times.

I recently tried an old HP that someone gave me...
and it took about 3 or four cleanings

It probably has been sitting. I have tried three cleanings so far,
with no improvement.

Yes, I figured as much. I found the place in the computer's printer
properties to choose black&white or color. I tried setting it to
color with the same results.

I have no way of knowing if the XP driver I have are the correct one,
although it seemed to install okay. The printer itself came with
drivers only up to NT, but not XP. FWIW I downloaded the driver I am
using from driveragent.com.

As a courtesy to me, since the service I provide is without any cost to
anyone (but me) and is not a commercial venture, I ask that when people
mention my email address that they do not expose it publicly in
newsgroups in the standard form.

Groups like usenet, yahoo, etc, are mined for valid email addresses.
When my email address is exposed publicly like it was below by the OP
(in three different usenet groups, no less) (I changed it so as to not
further expose it) I, or my poor ISP get literally hundreds and
thousands of spam emails to my address.

That sometimes causes my address being shut down for days, which
benefits no one.

So, please do not list my address in public emails in the correct format.

Instead use:

e-printerhelp(at)mvps(dot)org

(at) = @
(dot) = .

Thank you.

I've used rubbing alcohol...
just the kind you can get at the drug store...the cheap stuff!

A shop filling inkheads, advised "Glassex" (nl), glass cleaning spray,
a thin 3mm layer in a small disk, and the inkjet holes just dipped
into that.
Leave alone for half an hour, or less,if you see ink coming out,
coloring the liquid.

I googled "epson stylus 3000 driver" and it took me to the Epson site
and there the drivers are there. I generally do not truust the
drivers from a non manufacturers site if they are available from the
manufacturer.

I thought as much. Just wanted to check.

Thanks

If the ink cartridges in the printer is 6 months or older it would be wise
to replace them with new cartridges (by Epson's standards). The liquid
carrying ink tends to oxidize. The ink becomes thicker, and the resultant is
an easier head clog.

Get some ink cratridges with colour ink in them --- the ones you have are
empty.
