Epson 1640SU Twain driver problem

My PC has two OS's, Windows 2000 Pro and Windows 2000 Server. It also
has an Adaptec AIC-7850 SCSI card to which the Epson 1640SU scanner is
attached.

The Epson Twain driver works just fine under Windows 2000 Server but
will NOT work under Windows 2000 Pro. In Paint Shop Pro when I try to
acquire an image it does nothing. At least Corel Photo-Paint pops up an
error dialog saying something like "Unable to negotiate capabilites of
Twain".

I've tried both Twain versions available at Epson, with the same result.
I've gone thru every troubleshooting guide I could find. Everything
looks good on the install, it just doesn't work.

It can safely be said that this is not a hardware problem.

Can anyone shed some light on this mystery?

Thanks for your help.

Windows 2000 and XP does not have ASPI installed.

Install from Adaptec.

That sure sounded like a good answer. The ASPI check utility said ASPI
was not installed on either of my OS's, so I installed it on both Win
2000 Server and Pro. It made no difference. Twain still works on
Server but not Pro. On Pro the error message is "Error negotiating
capabilities with the Twain driver."

Whatsmore, Twain worked on Server without ASPI.

Thanks for trying. Do you have any other ideas?

I got it working. Problem was the Windows Still Image Services was not
running.

I don't remember ever having shut it off, but it's possible I suppose.
