eplorer error when creating new TCP/IP port

Hi.

I've tried to install an HP network printer on my laptop. But when I
try to create the TCP/IP port I get an explorer error.

I tried sfc /scannow to check if all the windows files were OK. Didn't
work. I also tried to download a jetdirect from HP. And I get the same
error. I also tried to install SP2 to see if it would correct the
explorer error (didn't work either).

Is there a workaround or something I could install, or reinstall a part
of the WinXP. I really don't want to format windows just for a printer.
It doesn't make sense!!!

thanks

Well, I think some clarification of your situation may be in order.

A "jetdirect" is a physical piece of hardware and I'm not aware of anyone
inventing a "replicator" for physical objects like they have on Star Trek,
so what exactly did you download from HP?

Exactly what error do you get and at what step in the process of creating
the Standard TCP/IP port does it happen?

The Standard TCP/IP port monitor driver is tcpmon.dll. What date and
version of this do you have?

Are you sure you don't have any viruses or other "malware" on your computer?

I've not encountered anyone having a problem creating a Standard TCP/IP
port, so your situation is quite unusual.
