Microsoft Service Pack 2 was installed today with updates. Now, when we
click on the envelope icon in the toolbar, we are directed to Outlook instead
of Outlook Express which we are using. I tried Tools; Internet Options;
Outlook Express; Apply; and OK but wouldn't keep the information. I'm used
to using the icon to get to my email, but am having to go to the Start menu.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Teresa Frechette

Try rebooting and opening OE from the start menu - set it as default
immediately.

Diane: Thanks for trying to help me out. I tried to do as you suggested,
but it still doesn't work. We are using Windows XP Home Edition 2003.

When I open Outlook Express from the Start menu, a window comes up asking if
I would like to set OE as my default mail server......I answer yes, but
doesn't work. Have you heard of this problem before?

Hi Teresa,
have you also tried
Internet Exploerer > Tools > Internetoptions > Programm > And set Outlook
Express as Email Client?
And if that is not the solution, you have the chance to change it via
Registry
Start > Run > Regedit
navigate to the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MASHINE\Software\Clients\Mail
Please doubleclick the DEFAULT Key on the right side and insert a new Value
in you case Outlook Express.
Close the Registry and restart Outlook Express

Andreas: Thankyou for the suggestion. I will try it out. As for the first
part of your reply, you may notice if you look back to the original question
that I've already tried that but it didn't work. I don't know why. I will
get back to you.

Thanks,
Teresa
