outlook suddenly won't open

I use Outlook only for the Contacts section; we use Outlook Express for
email. We have Windows XP for our operating system. Yesterday morning I
opened Outlook (from a desktop icon) and used the Contacts book; it worked
fine. Yesterday afternoon it wouldn't open. I've been trying to figure it
out ever since. When I click on the icon I get the little hourglass for a
few seconds and then it just fades away and nothing happens. No message,
nothing. I haven't shut the computer down since yesterday morning as I'm
really afraid of losing my only contacts information. Any suggestions would
be appreciated. Thanks!

if you made a restart it was going to work again :d but it's ok try to open the end task dialog and search about the outlook it may be working and couldn't be closed correctly last time (Alt + Ctrl + delete ) then choose process tab and search for the outlook.exe , right click end process and re start the outlook again it will work. hope this is useful for you.

This indicates that Outlook is still running and you don't realize it. Open
the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and examine the Processes tab to see if
OUTLOOK.EXE is still there. If so, you should be able to end it and Outlook
should start normally then. Some reasons why Outlook may not close properly
can be found here: http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/outlookdoesntclose.htm
