Outlook won't open, no error message

I have been using outlook 2003 with gmail. Just recently it refuses to open.
I get no error messages, it just won't open. I click on the icon in the
toolbar and nothing. I go to start>programs>msoffice>outlook2003 and nothing.
The little hourglass appears for just a couple of seconds then...nothing.
I was having trouble getting it to send messages, now I can't even get it to
open.
What gives?
