END Program error during and after SP2 installed

My HP zd7280us with XP Media Edition failed to restart at the appropriate
point in the SP2 installation.

Forcing a shutdown resulted in an "END Program - {44C6FB81 - KBDWN..." error
at that time and every shutdown or restart since.

The SP2 installation appeared to continue normally when I rebooted and
everything now seems fairly normal except:

1. the above mentioned shutdown error.
2. kbd.exe is using about 50% of the CPU (is this normal, a trojan or
something else?).
3. there's a blank entry in the startup list after the KBD entry.
4. system performance goes to pot after playing a Recorded TV program in
full-screen mode (may be unrelated to SP2).

Any help greatly appreciated on any of these issues.

Thanks for responding Carey.

I ran all these before installing SP2, per the HP instructions, even though
the MS info when I ran the patches said they were to be applied *after* SP2
was installed.

Here were my results:

SP26352 - System Restore Update - FAILED both before and after SP2 installed
(said my computer is not eligible, but don't know why)

SP26330 - HP Image Zone - ran OK

Update: Norton Anti-Virus - already had latest version and it's working fine
with Windows Security Center

SP26333 - Update: Wild Tangent Games - ran OK

SP26350 - Update: Microsoft Media Center Program Guide - ran OK

SP26328 - Update: Volume On Screen Display for Windows XP and Multimedia Kbd
pre-SP2 - ran OK and Volume display on screen at least looked fine
post-SP2 - ran again to try to fix END Program hang and it hung my
computer

SP26329 - Emuzed TC Tuner Driver Update - ran OK
SP24048 - Hauppauge TV Tuner Driver Update - FAILED because no such driver
present on computer

Someone please help - I'm lost and in way over my head.
