End need for administrator log on

I would like to end the administrator logon screen that
comes up in the boot in my Windows XP. This computer is
at home and I don't want to go through that extra step
upon each boot.

I found how to disable this in Windows 2000, but can't
seem to get it done in XP.

I basically want to turn the computer on, have it logon in
the background as the administrator without having to
enter or press anything on the logon screen, and finish
booting without having to do anything.

Thanks.

You can disable this in the control panel - under user accounts. There is an
option there to "change the way users log on and off" - from there you should
be able to set the options you want.

Hope this helps!

Sandy,

Thanks for your reply. I did go into that option, but did
not see how to make the changes. Could you possibly be
more specific about what to do once I am in that area?

Thanks,

Presumably, your account is the only one on the computer. Use the welcome
screen. As long as you do not "log off", the computer should automatically
boot to your account, as long as there is no password (shutting down in the
normal fashion is OK). If there is a password, the computer will insist on
the password.

You should NOT use the built-in Administrator account as your only log-on.
This account is your only way into the machine (short of a repair install)
should your normal log on go belly-up.
Create a User Account, give it Admin rights and use that on a daily basis.

Hi thanks for the advice, and I will do that. But how do
I adjust the settings so I don't have to mess with a logon
screen?

Thanks

Go to Start-Run-control userpasswords2 and hit return. Look at the options
there.

Thanks for your reply. I do have a guest account also.

Your solution worked. Thanks.
