Encryption Plus Folders Freeware

This sounds pretty good, except for the large 6.1MB download. Has
anyone tried it? Are there alternate programs you would suggest for
encrypting and/or adding password protection to a few folders? I
tried LockFolder, mentioned in a thread several days ago, but it made
my computer act weird so I got rid of it.

Encryption Plus Folders Freeware
a powerful utility that protects the contents of a single folder on
your computer. Encryption Plus Folders Freeware uses the well-known
and documented Blowfish algorithm and a 64-bit encryption key. Just
enter a password and select a folder to apply secure file encryption
to its contents. Each time Windows loads Encryption Plus Folders
Freeware prompts you for its password. When the proper password is
supplied, it takes up residence in your system tray and grants access
to the contents of the folder. If the program is shut down or the
proper password isn't given, the contents of the folder remain
encrypted.

I've used Encryption Plus Folders Freeware in the past but I like SafeGuard
PrivateCrypto better (128 bit AES with PKCS#5 standard key).

Link to software appears to be broken. Do you have another link?

I was reading a story in another forum recently about the security of
encryption programs from this company.

Apparently, some animal activists used it to store details of their
illegal activities. The problem was, the police, Swedish I believe,
seized their machines, sent them off to whatever the Swedish have that
passes for the NSA in America or GCHQ in the UK, and the machines were
returned, broken. The activists were duly banged up in jail. The chief
of police of whatever Swedish force it was stated in a press conference
that the machines had been broken.
Ultimaco deny the claim to this day. I must stress it was their
implementation that was broken - it was their mistakes that let the aes
be broken, not the cipher itself. The activists are now locked up anyway
so that's more or less that. So, they must have had access to the data.

I guess it depends a lot on how secure you need your date to be. Is it
just to keep the wife/kids out, or the massive resources and computing
power available to Government agencies?

It is often stated that it is better to avoid encryption software from
the United States (no offense intended to anyone there) as the US
government restricts exports of strong encryption and, it is thought,
may require companies to build in "back doors" for the home market -
although no one really knows. For this reason many will prefer software
from other more liberal countries.

Also, don't keep your password on a yellow stickie attached to your
monitor! Security is only as strong as the implementation.

With any software, choosing a good password, or passphrase, is
essential. Programs that hackers use such as John the Ripper (freeware)
can break many simple ones easily. The method of hashing the password is
a potential weak link, and security agencies may attempt to use
keyloggers as a way to get at encrypted data.

A wide range of cryptographic algorithms such as AES, 3DES, blowfish etc
are available in various software. The best, if you can find it, is said
to be Serpent, followed by Two-fish.

It's working now.

It doesn't seem to work here. I can bring up the website. But if I try to
download the software, I get file not found screen. I have tried turning
off Proxomitron but still no luck..
