Enabling sharing folders only after entering remote login name+password?

I enabled file/folder sharing on a WinXP Pro system for a certain folder.

When I access this local folder from another remote (LAN) computer with different
users I can access this folder without further requirements by only mapping
the folder to a new drive letter.

From other installations (e.g. with Win2000) I know that the remote user has to
enter an existing username + corresp. password of the target system to be able
to really access the shared folder. Why not here?

Do I have to switch on a special setting to force outside users to enter a local
user+password?

Peter,

Do you have Simple File Sharing enabled? Or is Guest explicitly setup to allow
sharing? If so, you need to disable this.

Or did you already disable SFS, and setup matching account / password on each
computer?
