In checking to see that the firewall is enabled (or
enable it)on Windows XP 2002 (Small Business), I'm
following the Microsoft dowload instructions, but when I
get to Step 4 and click on Properties, nothing happens.
I noticed that the icon for my server (AOL 7.0) in
marked "Disconnected Generic SoftK56" although my AOL is
in fact connected and running. I tried to click on
Connect, but that didn't do anything either (although it
did change the small box).
I'm not sure what to do to get to the properties
window.

I have got same problem! Is it something to do with
having aol as isp? I only realised that XP had its own
firewall a few days ago and now that I'm back on my own
computer(been away 4 weeks)I would like 2 be able 2 use
it!
Really grateful 2 anyone that can shed any light on this?

if firewall is enabled, the connection will stat that in
the icon..i.e. dialup is enabled,firewalled

You'll either need to find a 3rd party firewall that is compatible
with AOL, or switch to a real ISP that is compatible with the real
Internet..

AOL is an on-line content provider that ignores international
Internetworking standards in favor of its own proprietary products,
and has deliberately made its connection software incompatible with
both WinXP's built-in firewall and WinXP's Internet Connection Sharing
feature. AOL's proprietary connection applet is deliberately designed
to preclude your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to include
enabling/disabling WinXP's ICF and ICS.

this?

.
Thanyou for info. Yet another thing to add to my ever
growing list of aol complaints! Been meaning to change
isp for ages, I'm just unbelievably hopeless at making
decisions! This is the last straw though. Thanx.

You're welcome.
