Enable DMA

I have 2 HDD on the Primary Channel and a CD-RW and a DVD-ROM on the Secondary Channel. All are set to 'Use DMA if Available'. Until 2 or 3 days ago the Master and Slave on the Primary and the DVD drive on the Secondary were all showing DMA in use and the CD-RW set to PIO only. But now both Secondary devices are set to PIO only although the 'Use DMA if available is still selected. How can I get the setting for my DVD drive back to DMA mode? The BIOS for both Channels is set to 'AUTO' but I have tried the 'USER' settings in various combinations without any success. I can't find any other settings in the BIOS connected with DMA.

once XP locks in the PIO from errors the only way the get
back is to un-install the device, re-boot. Shut down re-
boot re-install.

Thanks for your help, that fixed it. I tried the uninstall
before but it didn't solve the problem so this time I
uninstalled both devices on the Secondary channel and also
uninstalled the Secondary channel. The reboot found and
reinstalled the drives and the Secondary channel and after
a further reboot everything is back to normal, thanks
again.

Thanks Harry, I've fixed it by uninstalling both drives
and the Secondary Channel and allowing XP to reinstall.
The site you mention looks very interesting and I have
bookmarked it for the future when/if I have a bit of spare
time, thanks again.
Phil.
