Hi, Everyone.

I've run Spybot and Avast Antivirus on a customer's computer and have
removed many infected files.

When I run Microsoft AntiSpyware (Beta 1), the main window is empty.
All that appears is the menu bar (File Options Tools Help). When I
click Tools | Spyware Scan | Run a Scan Now, nothing happens. When I
click Tools | Advanced Tools | System Explorers, nothing happens.

When I run Ad-Aware Personal SE, it crashes immediately, before the
splash screen appears, saying that the program has encountered an
error.

When I run Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) and click on a logged event,
nothing happens.

I've run "sfc /scannow" to replace damaged system files.

F-Secure BlackLight Rootkit Revealer shows no suspicious files.

Any idea what's causing this strange behavior and how to fix it?

Does it happen even in the Safe mode? I mean the behavior of MSAS and other
cleaning software and the event viewer?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it happens in Safe mode the same as in
regular mode.

Give this a try:
You can repair Windows AntiSpyware using Add or Remove Programs in Control
Panel. Click Microsoft AntiSpyware and click Change. Click Next, and then
click Update.

Thanks. I tried that, and it didn't change anything.

I suspect that the problems are related to system DLLs that are
missing, corrupted, or need to be registered.

Some problems with "not visible" functions of MSAS derive from the problems
with Visual Basic DLL's, so you can try this (it helps in case of not
visible System Explorers in MSAS):

regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll

or try to reinstall Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0 found here:

But I really don't know if exactly those VB DLL's affect such behavior of
Ad-Aware and especially Event viewer..
