empty event viewer

E

Ellak

Hello All!

I have this problem in win2000 server.

When I open event viever it looks like it's completely empty. However when I
click the empty space where the events should be displayed it looks like the
is lines because I can select different lines in the area (lines are marked
with blue background color).

If I save the logs to a text file I can read that the are plenty of events
in the log file.

What can cause this to happen to the event viewer? Can it get somehow
corrupted? I tried booting the server and emptying the logs but it did not
help.

Thanks

Ellak

Hmmm they have a hotfix for it I see. I thought there was a work around for it without the hotfix?

From Dave Patrick:

The temporary fix;
You might try changing the file properties to "Overwrite as needed"

Else; Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General,
set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete (or move)
the corrupt *.evt file(s) from %windir%\system32\config then set the Event
Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart for effect.

Thanks! I read the article but could not find the patch to download. I don't
know is it downloadable patch or do I have to contact MS to get fix(never
happened before).

I guess I'm going blind or MS is just fooling me around. Annoying!
