Hi Marcus,
When I first had this happen, it was very alarming, but it's not really bad. Most of the
time the three files have become corrupt. To make new one you can do the following:
Go to Services (Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services/Event log), and disable.
Search for *.evt, and locate appevent.evt, secevent.evt, and sysevent.evt; and change the
extension to .old.
Reboot
Return to "Event log" service and enable to automatic.
Reboot
Check your event logs to see that they are cleared or may have one entry.
You should be fixed up as good as Hue Heffner. Well, maybe not that good, but good. ;o)
Note: I generally do think some causes of alarming red "x" circles, like putting the modem
in standby rather than disabling the cable connection, and some other little items that
really helped me get through the anxiety of imperfection. Hope you're jam up and jelly tight
now.
BTW, you can do another search for *.old and nuke these "three" files if you like; I do that
in case I need to retrieve something after changing for a short while.

---------
I have a Win2k member Server at SP4 that no longer displays any entries in
any event logs. I have rebooted with no change. I have scanned the KB for
any articles and find nothing. I have good firewall and AV protection so I
do not think I am infected or hacked.
Any ideas how to get the event logs back ... the event logger service is
running.
TIA
Marcus
