Embedded IMages in sent messages do not arrive at ~ 20% of Recipie

Attachments and embedded images are lost from my mail to others.

My email with attachments or embedded images have no problems reaching about
80% of my recipients, but these same emails are stripped of everything but
raw text when sent to Mac users and a few PC users.

The messages arrive with place holders such as:
"<unknown1.jpg>", "winmail.dat"; or even
"cid:[email protected]"

If I send these same messages directly from my Yahoo mail page they seem to
arrive OK, but if I send them from Outlook 2007 (12.0.6316.5000) SP1 running
under Vista then I get the above noted failures.

It does not matter if the offending email originated from my keyboarding
efforts or is a Forwarded mail, the results are the same.

The failures happen 100% of the time to the same recipients, and work 100%
of the time to recipients that get intact messages.

It used to all work OK but changed maybe 5 months ago. It is driving me
(and my friends) crazy. My above noted Outlook vs Yahoo tests would seem to
point the finger towards Outlook, but I sure can't figure out why/how Outlook
could affect successful messages with some recipients but not others.

Is there any insight you can share with me, that might help me address this
problem?

I suspect you're sending messages in Rich Text format to mail clients that
can't read Rich Text messages and decode the TNEF attachments. The
attachment name "winmail.dat:" is a strong indication. Only Outlook users
can handle RIch Text messages.

The fact that it works from a web mail interface has no bearing on the
problem.

The fact that messages can be received by some and not others indicates that
either those recipients are using Outlook and can read your Rich Text
messages or that you're not always sending Rich Text and they can read those
messages that are HTML or Plain Text. If specific recipients always have
the problem, then I suspect you have their Contact record configured so that
they always receive Rich Text no matter what format you've set as default.
This can happen if you import contacts from, say, a CSV file.

I don't have enough information to guide you farther.

Brian - thank you very much for your speedy reply.

My Outlook email format is and has been set to HTML format, except for a day
when I changed it to Rich-Text as an experiment to see if that would let my
images thru. I did not make any difference. The people that got things OK
in HTML before still worked in RichText and the people that failed before,
still failed. Soooo it does not appear to be a function of how I have my
email formating set up.

You indicate that recipients may have their "... ...Contact record
configured so that they always receive Rich Text..."

I can find no such setting in the email Config options and since we are not
talking about any Contact exchanges here (certainly no one has imported my
Contact name from a CSV file that I am aware of) I am at a loss to comprehend
what you might mean here.

Also noting that virtually all Mac users are experiencing failures with my
embedded images, what does that tell you? I thought that Macs did an
exceptional job of reading HTML emails (at least my iPhone sure does!) so why
would Mac users struggle with my emails?

Are there any tests you can suggest? Can I send you a mail that failed
miserably every time and see what you get? Any other thoughts to share?

Open the record for one of the contacts that is having the problem.
DOuble-click the email address. Do you see an "E-mail Properties" dialogue
and, if so, is there an "Internet format" drop-down at the bottom? If so,
what does it say?

Ah Ha!!!!

The problem recipients are set to Rich Text email formating!!! I never knew
there was an individual setting!!

Is there a way to change all to "HTML" formatting, or do I need to change
all 432 contacts individually?!

Thanks much!!!!!

It's possible using code, but I don't know how to do that. An example using
Redemption can be found here:

be found here in microsoft.public.outlook.program_vba:
