Emails Sent but remain in the Outbox

I am using Outlook 2003 and when sending an email some of my emails remain in
the Outbox. However if I select the same email in the outbox and press
Forward and Send/Receive again, the email is sent successfully. I have
disabled Norton Internet Security and the problem still exists. I have found
that by going to Tools/Options/Mail Setup tab and checking the box to 'Send
immediately when Connected' option that more of my emails are sent
successfully, but there are still instances when they still get stuck in the
Outbox. Can anyone help?

It seems this is a fairly common problem as I've followed several threads on
the same subject and still have not found a solution.

If you are using cached exchange mode in 2003 emails will hang out in the
outbox until a specific timeout goes by without other changes to be made to
your mailbox then it does them all at once.

The other one that could be causing it is if you are set to work offline.
(File>work offline) If you are set for that mode, turning it off will make
everything work properly.

Are you using Exchange or basic POP3 accounts?

Does this happen only on your computer or are there others similarly
configured in a network that you can check as well?

Thanks for responding Aaron. I've checked the Work Offline option and I'm
not working offline. Can you tell me how I can find out if I'm using the
cached exchange mode?

Hi, thank you for your interest in my problem. I am using POP3 and and it is
a stand alone computer. I read in another posting that someone else
experienced the same thing and if they left ONE unsent email in the outbox,
then newly created emails would be sent, about 80% of the time . I've tried
this and it seems to be the case. Bizarre. The fact that it still happens
though is a nuisance. I'd be very grateful for any other suggestions you
might have.
