I have been working on the reporting a bit more. I have a PC running
the same outlook on XP SP2 which is sending OK. I have created a log
file on each computer showing only 1 send operation. It is now clear
that the Laptop is not connecting to the SMTP server, even though it
doesn't report an error through the user interface.

On the laptop, can you telnet to the server and port your SMTP server
expects you to use?

The odd thing is it doesn't do it all the time. Here is a log print out from
the laptop for a single email sent to another single recipient. It seems to
be certain recipients that are failing. Could there be something wrong with
my contacts folder? I imported it from the working machine.

I "think'' I have cracked it at last.
It seems there were some corrupt email entries in my contacts folder. If any
one of there were in an adressee field in an email then the mail didn't go
out, even though outlook didn't report any problems through the user
interface, and the mail stuck in the outbox.
I have just been through all of my contacts and manualy re-typed their email
address in and saved it.
I have to do some more testing but it seems to have cured the problem.
I'm not sure what caused thge corruptions at this stage. It is likely either
a problem importing the data saved from my XP machine or a problem with sync
centre when I sync with my PDA.
I'll post when I find out more.

Regards and thanks to all.

Clive,

Thanks for posting the followup - I have one user out of 7 on OL2003
with this smtp send failure and couldn't find a difference - i think
you're on to something. Appreciate you taking the time to fill out
the thread.
