Why won't my laptop send emails in Outlook 2003, while I'm away from my own
office? I often find I can receive emails on e.g. the hotel's wifi, but I am
unable to send any.

Thanks so much, Vince. I have now got help with authenticated SMTP. If WiFi
providers don't allow for port 25, how do you reply to your emails?

My ISP's authenticated SMTP uses a different port so no problems for me...
Otherwise I use my provider's web mail interface.

Use a provider who allows SMTP message submission on a designated message
submission port. RFC 4409 designates port 587 as a message submission port.
Many providers also use the /de facto/ secure port 465.
