Emailing tasks from 2007 to 2003 Outlook

Two computer office. The tasks arrive to the 2003 machine's inbox displaying
"This item cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane. Open the item to read its
contents" Click on it to read it, and it displays "Can't open this item.
Outlook cannot do this action on this type of attachment". The task Will Not
drag and drop to anything but the desktop, and is still unopenable.

The same thing occurs sending from the 2003 to 2007 machines.
We'd like to stop using paper to organize our tasks, but we're clueless as
how to fix this.

What type of mail server are you sending through?

(J/A stops scratching...;) ) Thanks for stopping by. A POP server, and the
two 'puters are linked to a common router if that might help or hinder the
issue. The 'puter w/'03 back in 3/09 developed 'seizures' (Ran slow and/or
froze, usually in the midst of Something), which cleared up after a reload of
the OS and some of the major programs. We hadn't tried to use Outlook's Task
functions betwixt the two until just recently. Neither of us are 'literate'
enough to assess what Exactly the issue(s) may be, so a 'follow the magic
breadcrumb trail' explanation would be appreciated...
Besides, I have to let these scratches start to heal....*G*

Try a therapeutic lotion for the scratches.

Try describing the steps you take to create and assign a task so we can
examine your process to see if there is something in the process that is
causing the problem.

In Outlook/Tasks, we create a new task within it's window. Then we can
delegate that task within that window by assigning it to each other. It gets
emailed at that point by clicking the send function. When it has been
received, it appears as an email with the 'assigned task' icon, with a name
followed by 'task request' and it's header/description, the date, and it's
flag (which can be changed). It just can't be opened to be read or moved
from the mail window. It appears in bold type, which reverts to normal type
if you click on it as if to read it. It displays "Can't open this item.
Outlook cannot do this action on this type of attachment" If you right click
and try to move, accept, or whatever, it displays "Outlook cannot do this
action on this type of attachment". It seems inert; you can't even delete it.

We are having a similar problem but since both computers use Office 2003 with
one using Windows XP and one on Vista, I believe the problem to be related to
that... has anyone found a solution?
