Email Signature Reply

Okay, I've read through all the postings and can't find anything on reply
spacing.
When I use a signature on a reply message the text from the previous message
starts to the right of the signature.
I've tried adding <BR> and <p> after the signature to bump the text down,
but this spacing varies dramatically depending on the original message.
Is this because the incoming email maybe in HTML or RTF?

Does anyone have a fix.

read/reply all your emails in plain text. Solves quite a few problems and is
more secure.
