Not enough information

Is your friend receiving emails by using webmail (e.g. through hotmail
or gmail) or by using an email program such as Outlook Express or
Windows Mail?

If the later, his ISP may not be receiving a signal from his email
program that the message has been received, even though it has.
Therefore it will keep sending it.

Most ISPs have the ability to access emails through a webmail system.
If this suggestion is the case then there will be one copy of the
email showing in the webmail page. Have your friend go into that and
delete the email there.

Does the 'Received' time on the emails vary, or do all copies have the same
time stamp? If the latter, it's not a sending problem, the recipient has a receiving
problem, probably a 'stuck' email on the server.

This keeps happening to me too! One solution that worked for me, that your
friend would need to do on their mail account was:-
Open Mail
Tools
Accounts
highlight the account with the problem (if using more than one)
properties
Advanced
Set Server Timeout to Long (5 minutes)
Apply

Good luck!
