email problems, 2 different computers

A

ajk

I have 2 computers, one has Outook (xp) and one has Windows mail (vista)
both set up for the same email address. When I receive an email on Windows
and open it, it doesn't appear on the Outlook computer. Anything received on
Outlook always comes through on Windows.

How can I get my email to always appear on both computers?

Also, the Windows Vista computer will only receive email, I get an error
message when I try to send:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

On each computer, open your mail client, go to Tools > Accounts > select
your account and click Properties > Advanced tab > Then check the Leave a
copy of messages on server. And you can also check Remove from server after
x days (change that to whatever the time lapse is between you check messages
on both computers, plus a little extra). Both computers will recieve the
same mail as long as you check it within that time frame. You don't want to
leave the messages on the server indefinitely, as your mailbox will
eventually fill up.

You left off the most important part of the error message.
That part should look something like this:

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'trial',
Account: 'pop.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '550 relay not permitted', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Please post the entire error message.

We had ours set up with two computers and it was working well with one having
checked "leave message on server" (person using Outlook with Office) and one
left unchecked (person using Windows Mail with VISTA). Now the one using
Outlook has gone to Outlook Express and the one using Windows Mail is
receiving nothing but can send. Please help!

That usually means you are trying to send to an email address that
doesn't have any user behind it. Check to make sure you have it
correctly copied.

However, a few email servers are picky about whether you include
CAPITAL LETTERS in the addresses, so give it a try with all
letters in lowercase.

Follow Dustin's advice.
Set them both to leave the messages on the server.

Does this problem only happen when sending to that particular
recipient, or when sending to any recipient?
The mail server is saying that (e-mail address removed) doesn't
exist.

Interesting error message! At first glance the error message is quite
misleading, but if you place the emphasis on one word:
"No such user HERE"
it starts to make a little bit of sense. Of course there is no @hotmail.com
recipient with a mailbox at Velocecoffee.com. Which begs the question,
why is the Velocecoffee.com server not passing the message forward
to the Hotmail server? It is because the Velocecoffee.com server is not
authorized to act as a relay for non-local traffic. You are not connecting
from the Velocecoffee.com IP range, you are probably connecting from
your own ISP since Velocecoffee.com is not an ISP. Attempting to use
an SMTP server other than the one belonging to your ISP is a non-no in
today's anti-spamming environment.

The solution is for you to substitute the SMTP server belonging to your
ISP. Your recipients will not notice the difference.

authorized to act as a relay for non-local traffic.

You need to change the SMTP server name to whatever the
SMTP server is for the outfit that provides your connection to
the Internet (i.e., your ISP). Who is your ISP?

Interesting error message! At first glance the error message is quite
misleading, but if you place the emphasis on one word:
"No such user HERE"
it starts to make a little bit of sense. Of course there is no @hotmail.com
recipient with a mailbox at Velocecoffee.com. Which begs the question,
why is the Velocecoffee.com server not passing the message forward
to the Hotmail server? It is because the Velocecoffee.com server is not

Since the Internet connection for your laptop will change
quite frequently, you only have the following two workarounds
available.

1. Use webmail to send: http://www.comcast.net/webmail
2. Get a free Gmail account, then use the Gmail SMTP server.
