Email Mobile Notification

I tried to modify the rules and alerts feature of the mobile notification in
Outlook and I can't get all the way thru the process...it keeps telling me it
is an incorrect mobile phone number, but it's not. Any suggestions to get
around this?

Odd. Is it an international phone number, or a US phone?

It is a U.S. phone number. I thought it had something to do with my profile
info listed with Windows Live I.D. or Microsoft Passport, since that's where
I got relocated - to that sign in page then to SMS to register and link my
phone. I had a different cell phone listed with them previously. So I went
back thru the profiles on both and changed my cell phone number, closed out
of Outlook, signed out of everything, signed back in, reopened Outlook and it
is still teling me my cell phone number is incorrect. I am baffled.

Are you on T-Mobile or Cingular? Acc'd to
http://messaging.office.microsoft.com/hostingproviders.aspx, neither of them
are supported.

I went to the site for my phone 630-301-8xxx and it shows Prefix Type: PCS
which is sprint wireless. I have the same problem

Well, honestly, checking the telco data was my last step. What's the exact
error getting returned and what steps do you use to get there? You might
need to call in to technical support to get it resolved. I mean, if the
software doesn't think your number is a cell, there might be nothing outside
of Microsoft to be done, but I'm still curious about the exact error/steps.

Well a good old fashion reboot and Office accepted the mobile number. Not
sure why, it just did.

I do have a follow-up question. Does Office have to be running for it to
forward the messages and calendar appointments or does it go via exchange?

Outlook needs to be running. I don't believe Exchange has any built in SMS
notification system. If getting email over the air is important to you, you
may want to recommend to your IT department that they support Microsoft
Windows Mobile devices which would give you a directpush of email straight
to your Windows Mobile device (sorry to sound like a sales person, but the
whole direct push is so snazzy, I love recommending it).

We already support windows mobile devices. I do not use one as I was sick
and tired of being tied to work. With the phone I use today (krazr) I have to
manually sync my calendar. I thought it would be great if I could receive a
text message with the next day's appointments.

Sounds like you're already tied to work if you need to get your meeting
invites sent. =) And over-the-air sync only ties you to work if you let
it. Ignore the mail, let the meetings sync.

What about Outlook Mobile Access? The web browser on the KRAZR should be
able to read it assuming your IT dept runs it. Either that or convince your
IT folks to purchase an SMS gateway for Exchange (well, or leave Outlook
running and your computer up and hope that there's no power outage or
anything and just suck up the power waste).
