Email Folders disappeared after emptying Junk Mail folder!

Using Windows Mail - had all my personal folders transferred over from OE,
and everything's been working just fine for about 4 months. Yesterday, I
went and emptied my Junk Email folder, and suddenly all of my imported
folders disappeared. I still have the basic Inbox, etc., but my Imported
Folders (which had a lot of subfolders, and a TON of emails in those
subfolders) is GONE. Not in Deleted Items - just GONE. Help!!!

Hi Steve, thanks. No help, though. Ran search for *.eml and can find
messages except for the ones that disappeared. They were in sub-folders that
were in my Imported Folder--which is the folder that went bye-bye. Also went
to the website you mention. It's all about OE, and I'm on Win Mail. (Used
to be on OE, successfully transferred over to WMail 4 months ago.)

From the website:

WINDOWS MAIL in VISTA: People are experiencing huge problems with Windows Mail in Vista due to antivirus software.

In most cases, it is sufficient to turn off email scanning (incoming and outgoing) and then remove your Email account, close and reopen Windows Mail, and then add your email account back again. However, in some circumstances, it is necessary to uninstall the antivirus software completely, as it is not compatible with Windows Mail (McAfee for instance is an example of this). If you encounter compatibility problems when email scanning is disabled, then find another antivirus program. There are plenty out there that do not impair the functionality of Windows Mail.

So my site is not just for OE, if one actually reads it.

Thanks, Steve I apologize. I put in the link you provided and it took me
directly to info about OE. I failed to navigate to the area just above it,
with the red box about Vista. I instead scrolled down, continuing to see
information about OE, on a site called OETips, and made to quick an
assumption.

Unfortunately it is still of no help, though. I'm trying to retrieve a
large email folder that disappeared. Up until the point it went poof, I had
no issues or problems at all. My spyware and anti-virus software is
compatible with Windows Mail. My problem is not an ongoing thing, it is a
one-time thing. I happened to empty my junk folder, something I've done for
4 months, several times a day, every single day. On this one day, when I did
it, it happens to wipe out my entire Imported Folder, and all the sub-folders
in it. I can't find them anywhere.

Thanks again.

Daniel, exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday. I'm in Windows Mail
and when I emptied my junk mail folder, another folder - containing vital
emails completely disappeared. Am at a loss to know how to retrieve it and
don't understand what is going on here.

I don't know what could have caused that then if it was not antivirus
software interfering.

As with OE, I guess frequent backups are warranted.

Again, I would check what antivirus software you have and how you have it
set.

Thanks Steve, I'm going to do that. As for frequent back-ups, you and my
wife must have talked...she said the same thing except she bopped me up side
the head.

Thank you Margaret...at least I don't wonder if I'm losing my mind. I was
beginning to think so. I'm not happy for you, but at least I know I'm not
the only one!
