Email attachments

When I try to open a PDF with Adobe reader 9.2 in windows mail. I get a
pop-up that says " no program associated." I checked in the defaults and
adobe is the default program.....? So I am not sure why it is sending up the
warning. If I download everything to the desktop and then open it works.
Any ideas?
