email attachments open too slowly

I'm running Outlook 2000 on a network. When I try to open
email attachments such as MS Word or Excel, it takes too
long (5-10 seconds). If I save the file and open it
directly, it opens "instantly".

Any ideas of why access through Outlook is so slow?

Thanks

Bob

Bob,

Does it take as long to open the attachment the second time you open it
(from the same email message)? The second opening of the attachment should
open it from a cached copy (local). Also, anti-virus software (client or
server) can cause problems like this. So, is everyone affected by this
problem or just your machine?

Thanks,

Greg,

1. It takes just as long (15 -20 seconds) to open it the
2nd time.

2. It's happening only on my machine.

3. Now (3/11) it appears that it doesn't make any
difference if I'm opening a file that is an Outlook
attachment or a file that is on my desktop - they both
open very slowly (15-20 seconds). However, If I open the
application (Word or Excel) first, and then open the file
via the File|Open command, each opens almost instantly,
i.e. the application opens "instantly" and the file
opens "instantly" when the call is made.

Any ideas of a next step?

Thanks,

Bob
