Attachments opening slowly

I have Lotus Notes email and am having issues opening launching attachments,
i.e. powerpoint presentations, excel spreadsheets and word documents.

The attachments are taking way too long to open. This issue began today
after Office (2007) was re-installed on my system. Reinstalation had to
occur because my spell checks stopped working.

Any one else have this problem with Office 2007?

Does it take a long time to open Word, Excel and PowerPoint files from your
harddrive? That is, if you leave Lotus Notes out of the equation, what
happens?

I'm guessing this is an issue with Lotus Notes and maybe the antivirus
program scanning attachments ....
