email address gone

Outlook 2002, sp3.
Most all the email addresses in the contacts folder are gone.
All other contact info is fine.
Have run scanpst.exe, email addresses still missing.
Have Imported an archive PST file still no email addresses.

Why would email address disapear from the contacts folder?
Is there a way to scan for them?
 
There are no reported cases of email addresses just vanishing on their own.
There is more to this story than you've told us.
