Email Acct Problems - Outlook Express vs. Vista Windows Mail

Donneda

While using XP Outlook Express, I was able to add the account for my online
school, Walden University. Everything still worked fine even after I upgraded
my computer from XP to Vista. Now the school has changed their email program
to be some kind of eCampus.

I followed their instructions for adding an account to Outlook Express and
was told that they should be the exact same for Vista Windows Mail. However,
when I set up the account, before I can send and receive, I get a user
verification screen where I have to type in my user name and password. This
screen just shows up repeatedly even though I know I am using the right user
name and password. I finally hit cancel and receive an error that my email
could not complete execution to send and retrieve email messages for that
account.

It is set as a POP account. I don't know if there is a problem with Vista
compatibility, or a problem since I still have dialup and not highspeed, or
if the school is wrong with their instructions for adding an account.

I can provide more specific information regarding all the settings if anyone
thinks they can help me. I am extremely frustrated with this since I have
been able to view my school emails through my personal email account for
years. Now I have to login to the school webpage and check my emails via a
different link. I know it doesn't sound like that big of a deal, but the
convenience factor right now is huge in my little world.

Does anyone have any help, guidance, direction, assistance, further
questions, etc? I will be very grateful for any help.

Windows Mail has a quirk that often makes it forget the password in
the same session that you add a checkmark before Remember password
if you then click Apply, as you normally need to do after such changes.
Click on Tools, then Accounts, then your school email account then
Properties, then Servers. If there's no check mark in the box before
Remember password, click on this box, do not click on Apply, click
on OK, then Close, then restart Windows Mail, then open the Servers
page again the same way. If there's already a check mark in the box
before Remember password, make any needed changes in your email
username, then click at the end of the dots for your password, then
backspace over them, then enter your password again, then any approvals
it asks for, then click on Apply, then OK, then Close.

You know that error message you get after you click Cancel?
Right-click on it, copy, then paste it into a reply here. Often there
is diagnostic information that will help us with troubleshooting.

That only happens when running a non-compatible antivirus.
The permanent fix is to replace that antivirus with a compatible one.

Tried that didn't work. Still receiving same repeated authenticity screen.
What else could be wrong? I've tried every single alternative to signin that
I know of.

I've deleted and re-entered the account information several times. Let me
enter again and I'll copy the error message here. I can tell you in general
it says that the authenticity of my login has an error. But, again, I can
assure you all, I've been on chat twice with the university and have tried
everything they have said, in addition to my own thoughts for ID and
Passwords.

After a few posts on this website by you all knowledgeable people, I'm
beginning to wonder if the University has issues with the setup instead of
Windows Vista. At any rate, I will add the account again and paste the error
message here. It will be a while, I have to go outside and work on staining
my deck while the sun is out. But, I am begging you, don't give up on helping
me. I am dying already with this "pain in the butt" problem. I will give you
whatever information you think will help you help me.

Thanks so much for your responses,
Donneda

Some email providers require that you enter your username with no spaces
and no CAPITAL LETTERS. Some require that you follow it with the part
of your email address starting with @, and some require that you don't.
Many require that you use CAPITAL and lowercase letters in the correct
places in your password. Some even disable your account for a few minutes
after each failed login, to make it very difficult for other people to guess
your
username and password.

Make a few tries based on guesses about which your email provider
requires.

Some servers want the username in the format (e-mail address removed) while
some just want the donneda part. Did you try both?
And watch the password: it's case sensitive.
