In Outlook 2003, can anyone tell me how to switch off an account
temporarily so that it doesn't check for emails Can find the check box that
is in Outlook 2000

It's in your send/receive group: Tools | Send/Receive | Send/Receive
Settings | Define Send/Receive Groups
