.emai file extension on received emaill

A friend sends me photos, drawings, and text files, as attachments. All the
attachments have a .email file extension and I cannot open them in Outlook
Express, Adobe reader, or anything else I have on my computer. How do I open
them, and what is she doing that sends a file with that extension?

Rename .EMAIL to .EML to access in OE.

Note: This file type can become infected and should be carefully scanned if
someone sends you a file with this extension.

Thanks, tho I unfortunately have no idea how to change the file extansion.
When I right click on the file, there is nothing in the pop up window that
allows me to change the extension. I have tried "save as" and change the
extension that way, but it doesn't seem to work. Still can't open the file.

You can't do that if viewing extensions is turned off in Explorer.
You've either got to turn viewing on or use command-line.

Tools > Folder Options > View > [ ] Hide extensions for known file types.

Thanks - since I always like to see everything, I didn't know that. I've
made a note of it.

I said "in Explorer". That's the Windows shell browser ie where you look
at any folder, My Computer, My Documents etc....

Mike, I found folder options in the Control Panel of my version of XP. I
tried checking and unchecking the "Hide file extension" option, rebooted
after the "apply" I still don't have a "rename file" option in Outlook
Express or in Internet Explorer or anything else I can find. Sorry! Is this
caused by HP"s OEM version of XP maybe?

Save the file THEN rename it. If you're savvy enough, change the name in
OE by using Save As, rather than Save.

Unchecking the option isn't going to add any magic new features to
applications - it just changes what is visible and editable in their
Open/Save dialogs.
