Eliminate log on/off?

Is there a way to completely get rid of the log on/off situation? I just
want single user, no password-and-annoying-click-your-name-to-enter
functionality with xp pro. I recently installed the asp.net update and it
messed everything up. Many applications are not able to automatically shut
down the system any more, instead I get the log on/off window. I tried
various automatic log-on suggestions but nothing seems to work.
Thank you.

To remove log off from the Start Menu.

1. Click Start - Run - type GPEDIT.MSC
2. Enable - Remove Log Off from Start Menu under
User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Start Menu & Taskbar

Also disable Fast User Switching under:

1. Start - Contorl Panel - or - Start - Setting - Control Panel
2. Users
3. Change the Way User Log On or Off
4. Uncheck Fast User Switching

See the following for setting Auto Logon:

You can configure Windows XP to automate the logon process if your computer
is not part of a domain.

1. Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2.

2. Clear the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer
check box.

3. Click Apply.

4. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with,
and then click OK.

5. Click OK again and you're all done.

This feature allows other users to start your computer and use the account
that you establish to automatically log on. Enabling auto logon makes your
computer more convenient to use, but can pose a security risk.

If nothing is working and you are logging off instead of Shut Down. Then
here is one more command which you can use.

HOLD DOWN CTRL KEY WHILE CLICKING SHUT DOWN. IT FILL FORCE XP TO SHUTDOWN.

Let us know, if the information is useful.

Hi,

Click start/run, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and
click ok. In the user list, click on the user that you want to be the
default. Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok
and follow the prompts to set up a default logon.

Thanks. When I manually request a shutdown it works fine. When I use
programs that have the option to 'shutdown after task end' it just logs off.
I have already tried your suggestions except for disabling fast user
switching. Will try.

Disabling fast user switching did the trick. Thanks.
