Effin URL hijack????

Well not happy

so here's the deal ... I got the message about the M$ Anti
Spyware appz ... I thought that it would be a good idea to
try that oot since those M$ 'I-am-so-not-a-sharing-
person'developers would know best what belongs and what
oesn't belong in the registry etc .... so I downloaded the
software .. it finds so little its just sad - but of
course, I am carefull and have a firewall installed and
made sure to keep my security settings as they should be
(by reading the documentation)) ... so what do I get .. I
normally have my IE homepage set to http://localhost ...
(because for some strange reason I am one of those people
who actually know what they are doing and I have my own
homepage with the links that actually interest me) .. what
do the wankers from M$$$$$$$$$$ decide? .. they forcebly
change my homepage to www.msn.com - the biggest bunch of
commercial crap site on the net ... apart from the porn
sites and the spammers - except that Microsoft is at the
same level as the lowiest of the spammers as far as I am
concerned by doing this ...
so, advice to you bunch of weirdos M$ developers ... when
scanning for softwre you find a homepage for IE that is
not www.msn.com (as incredible as it sounds) ..
indicate .. clean out . ask for confirmation .. and at
least - AT LEAST - indicate to users how to set up their
homepage and also that you forcebly changed the current
homepage to your store - "we want to sell you stuff you
don't need" - front!!! ..

This antispyware (but it is actually spyware since it logs
my actions and all and sends it back to the M$ staff) will
be removed asap and my Firewall has already been
configured to refuse any outgoing communications from this
application!!!

I am very very disappointed and will make sure to never
trust M$ again!

First when you do a scan the anti-spyware program does not
reset your HomePage do change to home page you have to go
into advanced Browser Hijack Restore, and restore the
settings in there. I have not seen this program send any
information back to MSFT without telling me first. I have
no idea what your problem is but MSFT has done a very good
job intergrating the Giant Software with their ideas. I
hope the improve it even more.

Jon,

yes yes you are quite right ... but it caught me at a bad
moment and having my homepage changed is one of the things
I detest the most although it is the easiest to repair
(except when it regenerate itself (not in this case) ..

so overall, apart from this .. the appz works fine and did
find 1 spyware and 2 diallers on my system .. I also had a
false positive which I simply ignored ...

the appz ran again overnight and didn't touch my homepage
settings that time round ...

To be honest I can't remember that I asked to have my
browser settings restored to defaults ... here is an
advice, make that setting more visible and indicate the
consequences to the users ... as for the homepage, I would
add a message textbox indicating the current homepage, the
proposed homepage and give choices to the user as to keep,
change to default or change to another homepage before
proceeding.

Cheers,

WNH
