Editing a PDF file

I used Acrobat Reader 4.0 in the past to view/selectall/copy PDF files and paste
the text into plain text files.

Something in my registry (W98SE) now keeps corrupting Reader these days, so it no
longer does the above. Uninstall/reinstall does not help.

Is there another program that will do the above?
Hopefully something around 1 MB or so, no-install preferred.

Thanks, Ian. I looked through the threads, am downloading the Fox
editor, even though shareware, it apparently will continue to work.
There are several commandline converters, but I would like to find a GUI
program.

Well, on my P166, Foxit PDF Editor is garbage. It did permit select all/copy and
paste to plain text- once. But with Fox minimized, my text editor would no longer
open a text file. After closing Fox, the pasted text required a large editing job.
When I tried on a second PDF file, Fox froze, and basically caused a screen freeze.

The smaller (?) Foxit PDF reader is quoted as a 580 KB executable. It downloads as
a 1.1 MB install, so N/A as it does not provide edit capability.

At this point, I will search for Acrobat Reader 3.0, see if that works.

You could always try Acrobat Reader 6 with the Acrobat Reader Speedup
program.

Alternatively, uninstall Acrobat Reader, use a registry cleaner and
reinstall.

Otherwise it might be a good idea to format your hard drive and reinstall
Windows. It might be overkill, but Win98 becomes corrupted after much use.

I found Acrobat Reader 3 at oldversions, it is smaller than 4, after install/copy
files/uninstall, it works as an executable. I'm again able to copy text to plain text.

A remaining issue:
View/Continious, still when I select all, it only selects the single page. Is
there a way to select the entire document?

Quite right about W98 gradually getting problems. Much less in last year due to
not installing much anymore. About 5 years since last reformat, only real problem
is some file associations seem permanently wrong.

I think this will not open newer format PDF files, but let us know how you
get on.
