Edited Excel File lost to 'Temporary Internet Files' cleanup in Windows 2000

MSIE Version 6.00.2800.1106, Windows Version 5.0, SP4, Build 2195
Help!
My girlfriend just came to me with this problem. She
1. Emailed a Microsoft Excel file from work to her Yahoo! Mail account
2. Click on the file name and chose to download it at home
3. Clicked 'Open' in the File download box
4. Poured hours of hard labor into doing various Excel things
5. Concientiously saved her file frequently
6. Closed Excel
7. Attempted to attach it to an outgoing email, but could not find it.
Now, the problem started, I think, in step three, when MSIE saved
the file to <profile>\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\<temp folder
name>, and became irreparable in step 6, shortly after which MSIE
cleaned up the file. But, is there any hope here? Can she recover this
file? Is there some secret place MSIE stages files for ultimate
deletion?
Thanks for any help!

When one wants to edit an email attachment one should first save it to a
location on the hard drive and edit that copy.

Frank,
Thanks for underlining the moral. It was indisputably on the hard
drive, it was just on a part of a hard drive that internet explorer
frequently erases -- I changed some settings I hope will keep that from
happening in the future (specifically, instructed MSIE not to delete
temporary files on exit.)
Maybe the moral should read, 'always "save" a file dowloaded with
microsoft internet explorer that you may wish to edit. Selecting "open"
on the download file leaves the file subject to arbitrary deletion.' In
fact, maybe that should be displayed on the download dialog itself.

Shouldn't you be asking this question in an Excel forum?
E.g. perhaps Excel has a "secret place" where it saves
"undo" files?

Good luck
