Edit button disabled

My Edit button is disabled on the toolbar, yet I can
still right click and select View Source. I have my
default program set to Notepad in internet options. It's
only just started happening since I visited google.com.

You may want to uninstall and reinstall the Google toolbar.

If no joy, perform a system restore.

I've had the google toolbar for about 4 months now, it's
only since I visited the google site.. but I don't see
how that would affect anything..

Clear the IE cache. I.E./Tools/Options/General/Delete files (and delete
offline content.) It's often recommended that the Temporary Internet Files
(folder) be kept at
40-50 MB. Bigger isn't necessarily better.

If you have created a shortcut to the desktop with NotePad then rename it
MyNotePad
