I purchased a 2K Prof. version from Ebay. Reason to doubt validity of disk received. How do I know if I purchased a legal copy of software. No "book" or case, just received a cd with a key number.

If you can register it at microsoft.com it is likely valid.

And is this CD a CD-R, or a CD with the shiny hologram cover? Is the seller
an apparently legitimate reseller (who should have known what to include),
or some random eBayer, who was cleaning out their desk and selling things
off? You may have some recourse to address concerns with eBay. Do let us
know what comes of this.

Start with the "How to Tell" home at
<<http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ww/default.mspx>>
and also "How to Tell - Is your Windows legal?" at
<<http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ww/windows/default.mspx>>

Does the CD-ROM have a hologram on it? If not it's pirated note that OEM on a machine that did not come with the OEM CD-ROM is a form of piracy. It's a little iffy there but ain't right.

Thanks for your response. I did not try to install, nervous about whole situation. After opening disk envelope, read that this is "for distribution with new PC only...Cert. of Authen. on PC. " Sending back, think this is crooked

If it's a blank CD, it most probably is a copy of an original version. Doe
it install
