Easy Transfer -- Outlook contacts unavailable as Address Book

Guest

My question is about my Outlook contacts folder not being available as an
address book. Other posts I have read do not appear to answer my question.
I have Outlook 2007 running in a Vista environment, all data and settings
transferred using Easy Transfer from Outlook 2002 running on XP. My contacts
folder is there and populated but now cannot be used as the address book.
The things I have tried are:
Creating a new mail account which gives me the same problem
Following the instructions in article ID 287563 (
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002
) as when I go to the properties of the contacts folder and open the "Outlook
address book" tab the option to show the folder as an e-mail address book is
greyed out.
Any help appreciated,

Hi Russ -- thanks for the links but I am still mystified. One link told me
how to back up the pst files and I have done that, another link told me how
to change the location of the pst files Outlook users and I have done that
and the third one told me how to reconnect with the new file locations and I
have done that.
Outlook works exactly as it did before -- I can see my Contacts but cannot
use them as an address book.
In Contacts folder selecting Contacts Properties and the Outlook Address
Book tab still shows the option for using this folder as an e-mail address
book as greyed out.
I am still not sure what to do -- please help, thanks.
I wait to hear from you.

You should not use Windows Easy Transfer for Outlook. It will not work.
You must create a new profile and use a supported for data transfer.
Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:

Hi Russ -- additionally in Account Settings under the Address Books tab there
is an entry "Outlook Address Book" which I cannot remove. I am also unable
to create a new address book as it tells me that one already exists. It
seems like Catch 22.
I wait to hear from you.

Hi Russ -- Posting this in case it helps others. Having used the three links
you gave originally and relocated both pst files. The next bit is to create a
new mail profile (Contol Panel - Mail - New Profile) and then connect that
with the relocated files. It works!
Having also made backups of the pst files is a bonus.
Thanks.

If you read my post, you will notice that I had already told you to create a
new profile. WET always creates a corrupt profile.
