Earthlink DW6000 and FrontPage

It's been 9-10 months with the problem everyone is describing in this thread.
I have Earthlink, an authorized vendor for DirecWay. Every month or so I
check in with them and each time they swear this is the first time they've
heard of this problem. If anyone hears of anything please post.

Another thread said their ISP host changed the "authorization" to basic and
everything worked just fine. My ISP sez that change is global and they
refuse to touch it. It was worth a try. Using the telephone to upload
website changes is a real pain.

There is no thread coinciding with your post. You apparently started a new
one ;-)

So, what problem are you referring to?

Rural areas have no cable or telephone broadband. Our option is satellite,
designed by DirecWay. I was already an Earthlink customer when they became
an authorized vendor. I purchased my unit/service from Earthlink, not
knowing that DirecWay had 2 satellite modems. the standard and the pro. EL
only offers the standard.

I already had the prior generation of sattelite modem, DW4000 I think. It
worked just fine except I had to use my main PC to host the system and
software. Other PCs in the house were fed by the #1 PC. It was a bear to
configure. At the beginning of the year DirecWay came out with the DW6000, a
self contained modem that feeds any number of PCs via a router of your
choice. Each PC gets the same signal rather than the old way of #1 being the
strongest. However, the DW6000 standard will not allow the updating of
webpages using FrontPage. I understand the Pro does, which I already
mentioned that Earthlink does not offer.

We purchasers of the DW6000 were not told of this problem up front, probably
because they were not aware of it. Postings tell me DirecWay eventually
developed the "Pro" unit to resolve the problem. However, they will not
honor any refunds or special upgrade costs to their customers. My ISP,
Earthlink, is supposedly completely in the dark. They can only deal with
what DirecWay offers them. I'm pushing Earthlink to make me whole. I've
been waiting 9 months.

The workaround for us users of the DW6000 and FrontPage is to dial the web
host via a backup telephone number (Earthlink has provided). Uploading
photos and heavy text via telephone is s-l-o-w and absolutely the pits.

I hope this explanation brings you up to date.

So, other than Earthlink DW6000 problems with your host, what are you asking
us to do?

We can't.

Not that I would know the answer to this - but am curious as to what happens when you do try to publish via this DW6000 ??

You get a non commital error that sez something similiar to "Unable to open
http://xxxx. Possible causes are 1-The web server may not have extensions
installed. 2-The web server may be out of service. 3-An error may have
occurred in the web server".

All this is bunk, as hundreds of threads have indicated. If you disable the
satellite connection and dial in, everything works just fine.

THIS ISSUE HAS CLEARED "ITSELF". DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW? Just for the heck of
it, I tried updating my webpage using my satellite connection. It worked! I
waited another week or so and tried it again. It worked! I cannot read
anywhere how this issue was cleared. Automatic updates is one possibility.
The only thing I've done is to install Service Pack 2. What about the rest
of you?
